Sanctuary Model

pg-sanctuary-instSanctuary Institute

A division of ANDRUS in Yonkers, NY, the Sanctuary Institute recognizes its paramount responsibility as a transformational agent of change. Through advocacy and dissemination of education, training, resources, publications, and services, the ANDRUS Sanctuary Institute promotes safety and social emotional wellness.

As the leader of an international community of practice, the ANDRUS Sanctuary Institute drives civic empowerment, social justice and equity, and systemic social impact. The work of the Institute touches both workers and those they serve in the social and public sectors, embracing all categories of diversity including: race, religion, nationality, gender identification, sexual orientation, age, immigration status, prior military service, justice involvement, poverty/socioeconomic level, color of skin and/or zip code.

ANDRUS has served the community in Westchester County and surrounding areas since 1928. The Sanctuary Institute division was formed in 2005.

Sanctuary is a way to understand the impact of adversity, create connections and empower people by creating environments and dialogues that promote safety, recovery, respect and partnership.

Sanctuary Model

The Sanctuary Model – theory-based, trauma-informed and trauma-responsive model – is a set of interactive tools that help children, families and organizations coping with emotional, relational, psychological and physical trauma.
