Building Blocks

Sensory-based Floor Time® therapy for children with special needs and ASD

Building Blocks is an early intervention program that involves parents and caregivers in therapeutic activities designed to promote self-regulation and improve engagement.

Toddlers and school-aged children come to Building Blocks through referral by the Westchester County Committee on Special Education (CSE) and clinical specialists treating children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

Following the Floor Time® model, parents meet their children at their level – on the floor – to participate in child-led games and sensory exercises that encourage the children to continually expand their circle of communication. The Floor Time® model has been demonstrated to increase intimacy, two-way communication, and emotional thinking in children with ASD.
